こんにちは、今回も私の大好きなシャーロック・ホームズの小説に出てくる英文章を解説していきたいと思います。
1. 緋色の研究より

(たった一滴の水から、その著者は言う。論理家は今まで一度も見たことや聞いた事が無くても、ナイアガラや大西洋の存在を推論する事が出来る。)
So all life is a great chain, the nature of which is known whenever we are shown a single link of it.
(人の一生もまた一連の大きな連鎖であり、その鎖のうちのたった一つの欠片を見せられるだけで、その人間の本質を知ることが出来る)

これらの内容はまさに天才ホームズを象徴するような文章になっています。推論と分析の科学はとても奥が深いのですね。
